ABOUT ME

The Man Behind the N95

Born and Raised in New York City, being a part of the urban sprawl has had a huge influence on my life. Constantly being surrounded by people from various backgrounds gave me an understanding of culture and diversity. NYC presented me with the opportunity to be surrounded by art, food, media, fascinating people, and languages, from birth.

The child of a bilingual educator who founded the first bilingual pre-school in NYC, I was raised equally in English and Spanish, the beginning of my interest in language. At age 10 I underwent a major transition, moving to Barcelona where I enrolled in public school, which was completely in Catalan, a language in which I became fluent in under nine months. Simultaneously I  absorbed myself completely in Catalan history, and culture, as well as the Catalan independence movement.

Moving back to New York City after only a year in Barcelona I combined my passion for writing and photography with interests in sports, food and culture, and popular media. My love for writing and creative arts was evident as I attended the High School for American Studies at Lehman College, from my contributions to the literary magazine to my creation of the introductory video at the 2019 Sports Banquet, photography work for yearbook and beyond, and my editing of the class of 2019 graduation video. Through these I honed my skills in video and photo editing, using Adobe Suite and more. I graduated from high school in 2019 and enrolled at Pitzer College in Claremont, California.

At Pitzer College I solidified my passion for writing and languages, declaring as a Writing and Rhetoric Major and Spanish Minor. I continue developing my writing, editing, and photography skills extracurricularly as a News and Opinion Writer and as an Editor for the Pitzer Newspaper, "The Outback." I contributed to the creation of the first two editions of a new on-campus fashion magazine, published in print and online, managing the photography department and contributing articles as well as article edits. Additionally I serve as the secretary of the film production company on campus, 5x5 Films.

My enjoyment of creative journalism is evident in all of my writing pieces and the courses I've completed, including: Creative Nonfiction, Arts and Culture Review, Writing for Social Justice, Writing Social Media, The Newspaper Op-ed, Media and Social Change, and more.

I'm looking for opportunities to continue writing in my career and to contribute to the world of creative journalism and writing.
